Board profile: Robert Estcourt

We want to showcase the amazing people that make 2RPH what it is. Introducing Robert Estcourt, Chair of the Finance and Risk Committee.
Can you tell us a little about your history with 2RPH?
About five years ago I was at a play in Frenchs Forest and ran into an ex-colleague, Ken Bock. At interval Ken tapped me on the shoulder and said I should join 2RPH in Glebe. As Chair of the Woolcock Institute, just down the road from the station, I was often in Glebe. After a while I dropped in for a visit and promptly ran into another ex-colleague I had not seen in years, Colin Payne. There was no way those two were going to let me escape!
Why did you decide to run for election to the Board?
My background is investments and after I got to know more about the station, its members and how it worked, I thought that I could perhaps help in managing its finances. I joined the Board just before [former General Manager] Nicci left and have enjoyed my time working with Di (Chair), Sancha (General Manager) and the rest of the Board as we have rejuvenated and re-engineered much of the station’s operation.
What do you enjoy about being part of 2RPH?
It has been very satisfying to be part of an organisation which is moving ahead so purposefully. That and my occasional breakfast stint give me a lot of pleasure.
What’s something you do in your spare time?
I still work in the investment industry, sit on a number of not-for-profit investment committees and Chair the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, which is now recognized as the world’s leading respiratory and sleep medical research institute. I also have children and grandchildren scattered around the world and that requires my wife and I to travel quite a bit.
