Wollongong Transmission is Live
Tue, 26 April 2022
On March 25th, the Radio 2RPH team(pictured above) travelled down to Wollongong to launch the new transmission of its valuable radio reading service to residents of the Illawarra. Broadcasting on 93.3FM from Brokers Nose, the event offered many opportunities for 2RPH staff and volunteers to celebrate months of hard work to get the transmission site ready and to meet with organisations that will benefit from the expanded service.
Radio 2RPH's broadcast to the Illawarra region was officially launched by our Vice Regal Patron's Her Excellency the Hon Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of NSW and Mr Dennis Wilson(pictured above). The launch at the BlueScope Gallery in the Wollongong Art was attended by a variety of local organisations, community radio friends, politicians and long-standing volunteers.
The event started with a moving Welcome to Country from Aunty Joyce Donovan (pictured below with her daughter, the Lord Mayor of Wollongong, Cr Gordon Bradbery and our joint patrons).
As part of the launch long-standing volunteer Mary Jane Hogan (pictured above) spoke of what drew her to Radio 2RPH and what kept her rising early to do the Breakfast show twice a week before introducing Natalie Shea(pictured below) in our 2RPH studios who showcased what it's really like to do a live reading of the daily newspaper. It's much harder than you think!
Radio 2RPH are looking forward to building a new audience across the new broadcast area.
